Training

Lothian Autistic Society offer training on autism and autism-related issues, e.g. communication, challenging behaviour, social stories, and introduction to play. We can discuss tailor-made training packages to meet your specific organisational needs.

Autism Awareness

"The training was very informative; I feel I have gained very helpful information. The trainer was great, answering any questions"

Autism and Asperger's Syndrome as Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC) are explored through reference to the Triad of Impairments and the additional differences (such as sensory sensitivities) that underpin/define this condition. Strategies to help with the specific areas of communication, social interaction and lack of flexibility in thinking and behaviour are also introduced. The aims of this part of the course are to:

"The trainer had great knowledge and enthusiasm and this came across in her presentation."

Understanding and Managing Behaviour

The concept of 'challenging behaviour' is discussed and tools for preventing such are introduced. 'General' prevention tools are explored through developing understanding of possible stressors and triggers. 'Specific' prevention strategies relating to the specific areas of the Triad and sensory differences are also introduced. Formalised approaches that can be used to develop knowledge of an individual's triggers are also discussed. The aims of this part of the course are to:

"Excellent course, all presentation by tutor carried out to an excellent standard. I am more aware of Autism now and would like to know more"
"Very useful and interesting. Came with no real knowledge of autism and learned a great deal."
