Respite

Lothian Autistic Society administers this service for its parent members who have a child or children who have been formally diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Condition. It's a voucher-based system which relies on funding obtained by the family from their local Social Work Department. The main purpose of this scheme is to provide respite when it is most required and so is quite flexible. It's operated in such a way that it is able to meet the needs of the child and the family. The scheme is recognised by the Social Work Departments in the City of Edinburgh, Midlothian and West Lothian.

To find out if you are eligible to receive respite, parents/carers should contact their local Social Work Centre. RespiteContact details below:

"The respite service is fantastic. Having a list of trained carers is a great help, being able to use the vouchers whenever you want is much better than having respite on set days."
"This is a vital service for our family especially as it is flexible with the hours of respite being tailored to suit our needs."
